Tyddyn yr Eglwys strategic farm launch

Over 80 people attended the launch of Tyddyn yr Eglwys as our third strategic dairy farm in Wales.

The 700 acre farm owned by Kim and Bryony Petty has a 395 acre grazing platform with a herd of 550 Fresian and Jersey cows operating on a sping block calving system.

Over the next three years Dylan and his wife Hannah aim to breed an effectient herd of cows that maximise the overall farms profitability, to grow and utilise as much grass as possible and to maximise cash out of the business.

The day included a tour of the farm, an overview of their key performance indicators and a thorough overview of Dylan and Hannahs processes, production systems and operations.

Dylan commented 'We really hope that other farmers across the country can learn from what we are aiming to achieve here and those operating similar systems can learn and progress with us.'

As well as increasing use of grass, breeding more profilable cows and maximising cash out of the business Dylan and Hannah will be taking a closer look at whether individual cows are passengers or performers in thier herd and look to maintain or reduce the current staff input per kg of milk solids produced.

Dylan Harries gives an overview of the farm and their ambitions
