Shropshire: Reducing mastitis cases through the dry period

Past Event - booking closed

Thursday, 02 February 2023

11:00am - 2:30pm

The Farm, Longnor, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

SY5 7PT

Join us at The Farm with Tim Downes and veterinary consultant James Breen to look at how to reduce mastitis cases focusing on the dry period.

As an organic spring block calving farm Tims cows are housed in loose straw yards in winter over the dry period before being grazed in early spring. Milk is produced without antibiotics (PWAB) so no antibiotic tubes are used at dry off. Following analysis of milk recording and clinical mastitis data the mastitis pattern analysis tool has identified that dry period infection is causing the majority of mastitis cases.

The meeting will cover:

  • The importance of accurate recording to identify the mastitis pattern on your farm
  • Hygienic drying off protocols
  • Assessing the dry cow environment
  • Mastitis prevention

If you're looking to reduce mastitis cases and improve milk hygiene, this event is for you.

Please note children under the age of 16 and dogs are not allowed at the event, even if they are staying in the car.
