RamCompare - understanding ram breeding traits and improve target market specification: North Yorkshire
Join AHDB for an event hosted by Mark Exelby at The Hutts Farm, Grewelthorpe, near Ripon, one of the nine commercial farms that are involved in RamCompare project.
Mark joined the project in 2017 and his second lamb crop from RamCompare rams were born at The Hutts Farm in April - May. This event will be an opportunity to see these lambs alongside their sires.
Launched in 2015, RamCompare, the UK’s commercial progeny test, is testing performance recorded rams from terminal sire breeds. Results incorporate new estimated breeding values (EBVs), released in May, which coincide with the recent relaunch of Signet’s recording services for Terminal Sire breeders.
We will be discussing the recent developments within the project using Hutts farm to demonstrate the performance of RamCompare lambs in relation to individual sire EBVs for the well-known growth traits and newly developed carcase traits.
