Newlands Farm, Youlstone, Bude,

Join us for a practical on-farm meeting to learn why good rumen development is key to weaning transition and how to make it successful on your farm.

Changes in diet, environment and social grouping can make weaning a stressful time for a calf. You’ll hear from consultant Chris Coxon about why getting weaning right can secure your calf’s growth, health and welfare, and reduce stress during this critical period.

Rearing replacement heifers is a significant cost of dairy production. Ensuring heifers are reared as efficiently and economically as possible requires management information about inputs, costs, and growth rates. Only then can areas be targeted to improve efficiency and manage costs effectively.

At the event you’ll learn about:

  • How David Luxton manages his heifer replacements
  • The practicalities of weaning, including how to create an optimal weaning programme for your farm
  • Nutritional and environmental management around weaning
  • The impact of weaning stresses and how to avoid them
  • Measuring and monitoring weaning performance on farm

If you’re involved with calf rearing and want to give them best start in life, this event is for you. There are a number of meetings across the country so if you’re unable to make your nearest one, other dates and locations and available.

Please note children under the age of 16 and dogs are not allowed at the event, even if they are staying in the car.
