Ayrshire: How soil health can make your farm business more profitable

Past Event - booking closed

10:30am - 2:30pm

Park Hotel, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire

KA1 1UR

Join strategic dairy farm host, David Campbell, to find out how he is using the results from his soil analysis to help him make informed decisions to make his business more profitable.

Soil health and soil sustainability are not necessarily limiting factors for grassland farmers to optimise their outputs when their soil is rich in organic matter. By understanding the variable rates required for each of his fields, David has been able to optimise his inputs.

We will be joined by Fraser Rennie from AGRII, who will tell us how the RHIZA system sources satellite imagery to assess the crop biomass, health and performance. he will also show us how this imagery can then be used to create management zones and variable rate applications.

We will also discuss the results from the analysis carried out at Low Ballees, how Ralph Bova, Ralph Bova Farm Services, and David Campbell used this information to plan their management, and what that has meant physically and financially for the business.

At this practical and interactive workshop, you will:

  1. Learn about the mapping tools
  2. Analyse the results from the soil analysis
  3. Learn about the management decisions taken at Low Ballees and how you can take this home to adapt on your farm

Please note dogs are not allowed at the event, even if they are staying in the car. Click here to find out more about AHDBs health and safety guidelines for events.
