Hong Kong pork imports slow

Hong Kong pig meat imports (including offal) were flat for the first half of 2020 overall, reversing the increasing trend reported in the first quarter.

A few suppliers recorded increases, including Thailand (+11,000 tonnes) and Brazil (+9,000 tonnes). However, there were significant declines from other key suppliers. The US, in particular, dropped sales to Hong Kong by nearly 40% (-22,000 tonnes) and shipments from China were down by a quarter (-10,000 tonnes).

Looking at the product mix, there was a slight shift towards fresh/frozen pork and away from offal. Pork imports were 12% higher year-on-year at 112,000 tonnes, whereas pig offal imports were down by 6% at 158,000 tonnes.
