Global supply growth sourced from Northern Hemisphere

Wednesday, 13 November 2019

Global milk production remains muted, recording only 0.5% growth in August. With mixed conditions in the Southern hemisphere, the majority of the growth in supplies at the global level are originating in the Northern hemisphere.

Although the EU is heading towards its seasonal low point, milk deliveries in August and September were above last year after seeing no year on year growth for most of the year. The US has also returned to growth in September, with milk production up 1.3% on the previous year. While New Zealand is having a strong start to its season, it is expected that deliveries will fall below last year’s figures and Australia continues to record contraction in supplies.
