GB finished pig prices lift again

In the week ending 24 April, the EU-spec SPP lifted again on the previous week, up 1.24p to average 145.10p/kg. This puts the measure 18.90p below the same week last year, but 1.16p above the five-year average.

Estimated throughput at GB abattoirs dropped back on the week, down 4,400 head (2.5%) to total 177,000 head.

Carcase weights fell yet again week-on-week, averaging 87.13kg, 160g lighter than the week before. This is the lightest average carcase weight seen since October 2020. Despite this, carcase weights remain high on the year, 2.07kg heavier than the same week last year.

In the week ending 17 April, the EU Spec APP averaged 147.87p/kg, lifting 1.38p on the week before. This widened the gap between the SPP and the APP to 4.01p.

Unfortunately, we were unable to publish a price for 7kg or 30kg weaners this week.
