EU commission release details on PSA scheme

On 4 May, the EU Commission formally adopted the regulations to open a private storage aid (PSA) scheme for dairy products. Applications for aid will be open from 7 May to 30 June 2020, and will be available for cheese, butter and skimmed milk powder. Applications will however only relate to products that have already been placed in storage.

  • Minimum quantity per application is 0.5 tonnes
  • All cheese varieties suitable for storage are eligible
  • Aid may be granted where the storage period is between 60 and 180 days.
  • Aid shall be fixed as follows:
    • €15.57/tonne for fixed costs
    • €0.40/tonne/day of contractual storage
  • Member states have been individually allocated a maximum volume eligible for aid based on production
    • Germany-21,726 tonnes
    • Ireland- 2,180 tonnes
    • France- 18,394 tonnes
    • Italy – 12,654 tonnes
    • UK- 4,499 tonnes

  • Minimum quantity per application is 10 tonnes
  • Aid may be granted where the storage period is between 90 and 180 days
  • Aid shall be fixed as follows:
    • €9.83/tonne for fixed costs
    • €0.43/tonne/day of contractual storage
  • No volume ceiling has been announced for butter, however, should the cumulative volumes applied for reach the estimated budgetary limit of €14 million, it is possible the Commission would suspend the current campaign

  • Minimum quantity per application is 10 tonnes
  • Aid may be granted where the storage period is between 90 and 180 days
  • Aid shall be fixed as follows:
    • €5.11/tonne for fixed costs
    • €0.13/tonne/day of contractual storage
  • No volume ceiling has been announced for skim milk powder, however, should the cumulative volumes applied for reach the estimated budgetary limit of €6 million, it is possible the Commission would suspend the current campaign
