Ahead of today’s USDA WASDE report: Grain market daily
Friday, 14 November 2025
Market commentary
- The May-26 contract closed at £176.70/t, down £0.70/t (0.4%) from Wednesday’s close. However, the Nov-26 futures contract, which shows the price for the 2026 crop, rose by £0.25/t to £178.15/t. AHDB’s Early Bird Survey of early plantings and planting intentions shows a 1% rise in the UK wheat area for harvest 2026, compared to harvest 2025.
- Chicago wheat futures (May-26) slightly decreased at yesterday’s close, while Paris milling wheat remained unchanged. Maize futures closed higher. Markets are waiting for the November World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report from the USDA, which is scheduled for release today — the first since before the shutdown.
- For the 2026/27 season, Expana predicts that the area of EU soft wheat and barley will remain stable compared to 2025/26, while the area of maize could potentially decrease by 6%.
- Paris rapeseed futures (Feb-26) rose €4.00/t to €482.50/t yesterday, while futures for May-26 increased by €3.75/t to €479.50/t.
- Chicago soyabean futures and Winnipeg canola futures (May-26) rose by 1.0% and 0.4%, respectively yesterday. Chicago soyabeans were supported yesterday, possibly in anticipation of the USDA's lower current crop yield estimates compared to previous figures.
