LISA Lupins

Summary

Project details
This project aimed to investigate the potential of spring sown lupins in arable and mixed farming in the UK.

The main findings from the LISA project have demonstrated that lupins can provide a valuable source of dietary protein and energy for ruminants, offering a traceable and non-GM alternative to imported soya. A dairy cow experiment, which ran from weeks 5 to 12 of lactation, showed that lupins could be used to replace soya bean meal in dairy cow diets without affecting milk yield or milk composition in the short-term.
