Vale of Glamorgan Monitor Farm Launch Meeting
You are invited to join us next month for a farm walk at the new AHDB Vale of Glamorgan Monitor Farm summer launch meeting hosted by Dan Moore, R&L Anthony.
We look forward to welcoming you on-farm for a look around the new AHDB Monitor Farm, hearing what the farm aims to get out of the monitor farm programme. We’ll also cover other key topics including their current strategies for soil health, agronomy, carbon, crop establishment and nutrition strategies.
This meeting is free to attend, but please register using the 'Book Now' button below. BASIS and NRoSO points will also be available for attending this meeting.
What will this meeting cover?
Dan Moore is the arable manager for R&L Anthony Ltd based across the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend in South Wales. Dan joins the AHDB Monitor Farm Programme with the ambition to future proof the business by reducing their impact on the environment, introduce more cover crops / catch crops to the system, integrating livestock to an intensive arable rotation, looking at how they can reduce reliance on fertiliser and conventional chemicals whilst maintaining profitability and production alongside exploring, understanding, and adapting to future environmental schemes, carbon markets and commodity markets. During the farm walk, we will be looking at the current crops as well as discussing:
- Soil health – how has Dan approached soil health improvement with his business.
- Agronomy – review and compare Dan’s agronomy strategy for 2022 by taking a look at his crops first hand!
- Soil management for autumn crop establishment – a look at the different cultivation methods, comparing how they have impacted on earthworms, soil structure, health, and crop performance
- Reduce reliance on fertiliser and agrochemicals – Discuss how options to reduce reliance whilst maintaining profitability and production
- Cover crops – Discuss Dan’s catch / cover crops in the rotation and the plans going forward
