About Penllech Bach

Penllech Bach is a 100ha all grass farm owned by Dafydd Wynne-Finch and managed by Matthew Jackson on a 50:50 share-milking agreement which began in 2013. Alongside Matthew, his teammates Iolo and Bethan both work on the farm fulltime.

The spring block calving herd comprises of 300 New Zealand type Friesian Crossbreds, producing 5,500L/cow and 450kg MS/cow. Calving starts on 25^th January, with mid-point achieved 14 days later. Fertility is high, with only a 5.2% empty rate in 2019.

About Strategic Dairy Farms

Strategic Dairy Farms aim to help farmers learn from each other through regular on-farm meetings where we will share key performance data and showcase what the best farmers are doing. 

They form part of the Optimal Dairy Systems programme which aims to help dairy farmers reduce costs and increase efficiency by focusing on either a tight block or all-year-round calving system. 

The growing network of Strategic Dairy Farms have calculated KPIs for their enterprises which are shared at meetings and published online. These are physical and financial performance measures that are critical to success. Farmers can benchmark their businesses against these KPIs to help identify areas for improvement.

Mae'r fuches sy'n bwrw ei lloi yn y gwanwyn yn cynnwys 300 o wartheg Friesian Seland Newydd croes, sy'n cynhyrchu 5,500 L y fuwch a 450 kg MS y fuwch. Mae'r cyfnod lloia yn dechrau ar 25 Ionawr, ac mae'r pwynt canol wedi'i gyflawni 14 diwrnod yn ddiweddarach. Mae ffrwythlondeb yn uchel, gyda chyfradd wag o 5.2% yn unig yn 2019.
