You are invited to join us at the second Strategic Cereal Farm North open day hosted by David Blacker.

The flagship open day event returns to the Strategic Cereal Farm North.

Please join us as we provide an update on some of the key baseline results from year one and showcase some of the latest research in practice. It will also provide you with an opportunity to discuss key topics with industry experts.

  • Other research at Church Farm: York University and ADAS trial measuring emissions from growing crops

13:30 Farm walk looking at:  

Crop Canopy; Charlotte White, ADAS. 

  • Impact of different drainage systems on plant emergence
  • Conducting plant rooting assessments on-farm

Soil Health and Structure; Anne Bhogal, ADAS  

  • Using soil health metrics to make decisions
  • Digging deeper, investigating soil structure beyond the topsoil

Nutrient Use Efficiency; Clive Blacker 

  • Introducing a 4–year long project looking at Nitrogen Use Efficiency at Church Farm
  • What can soil N cores tell us
  • How can we use data and technology to manage inputs for crop health and the environment

 15:00Group discussion: The importance of drainage in arable production systems.

  • The basics of conducting drainage
