You are invited to join us for the final Ripon Monitor Farm Meeting of the season hosted by Jonathan Fryatt

The final Ripon Monitor Farm meeting of the winter season is upon us, and for this one, we will be looking at the results of the Ripon Monitor Farm carbon audit. Looking further into Jonathan’s carbon position, we will be discussing emission pathways, mitigation practices, and where he stands in comparison to the benchmarks. Professor Pippa Chapman will be back to discuss the work Leeds University has been doing on the sequestration abilities of hedges.

What will this meeting cover?

Unpicking Carbon Audits

Megan Tresise, ADAS Climate and Sustainability Consultant

  • Carbon terminology and myth-busting.
  • What was involved in the Monitor Farm carbon audit.
  • Analysis of the Ripon Monitor Farm carbon audit results.
  • Realistic farm carbon management plan.
  • Understanding how carbon audits can help farm businesses make strategic decisions.

The potential of hedgerows to sequester soil carbon

Professor Pippa Chapman, Leeds University

  • The UK Climate Change Committee has proposed that extending hedgerows by 40% will help reach net-carbon by 2050.
  • In England’s agricultural landscapes, this would require the planting of 193,000km of new hedgerows.
  • Changing practices to improve soil sequestration rates.
  • What is the rate of CO2 sequestration associated with planting hedgerows? From above and below ground biomass.
  • Is this rate of hedge planting feasible via current initiatives?

Registration and refreshments will be available from 10:30 with presentations commencing at 11:00 and lunch will be provided.

BASIS and NRoSO points will be available for attending.
