Reducing silage waste and reviewing forage
Join us as we review progress at Honeypot Farm for an update on the changes they’ve made to their multi-cut system this year to improve efficiency.
Maintaining a high milk from forage yield in challenging financial circumstances isn’t easy. We’ll look at how farmer George Wade’s use of fertiliser and slurry has affected his forage production.
Dr George Fisher, independent consultant will lead a waste walk around the silage clamps and feed troughs to assess where clamping and feeding-out practice are efficient and ensure that all quality forage ends up in the rumen.
Areas we’ll review:
- Clamp consolidation with a heavy roller
- Using one purpose-made cling film sheet
- Cutting bag nitrogen use by 6kgN/ha yet growing more grass
We’ll start at Honeypot Farm and then move to Husbands Bosworth Sport Pavilion, Kilworth Road, Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire LE17 6JY.
If you’re interested in improving your forage production and how to make best use of fertiliser and slurry, this meeting’s for you.
