Join us and David Campbell, Strategic Dairy Farmer, on a visit to Ardyne Farm, to hear about how they have been able to successfully grow clover in their sward over the last six years.

With fertiliser prices high it is understandable that farmers are interested in more cost-efficient production, especially through a natural source such as clover. Including clover into your grassland management can help utilise the soil conditioning, nitrogen fixation and extra home-grown forage potential.

Ardyne Organic Farms Ltd produce both arable silage and clover silage to feed to their livestock to ensure top-class organic meat which can be used in their London organic restaurant.

We will be hearing from Ralph Bova, their independent on-farm adviser and Michael Mulgrew, DLF Seeds about how they have used grass clover sward, making full use of nutrients on the farm while maintaining profitability to ensure the quality of the silage required for the livestock on-farm.

Establishing clover in the sward takes time and some specific management. This field trip will give you the opportunity to share the challenges you have faced and learn from others.

During the day we will discuss

  • Establishing a clover sward
  • Maintenance of clover
  • Goal-setting to achieve good clover content across the farm

This meeting will be hosted in conjunction with NFUS.
