Tailored to address local issues related to the profitable production of cereals and oilseeds, the March Pembrokeshire Monitor Farm meeting will provide a timely focus on discussing agronomy strategies for 2022 and their on-farm implementation 

The March Pembrokeshire will provide a perfect opportunity for regionally relevant discussion to take place between farmers, agronomists, and scientists before undertaking the Harvest 2022 agronomy programme.  

Pembrokeshire Monitor Farmer, Tom Rees will be joined by Aoife O’Discoll (NIAB) and Ashley Jones (Saltash Monitor Farmer) where we will aim to discuss disease, pest and weed management, varieties, rotations and crop nutrition.   

BASIS and NRoSO points will be available.

Speakers:

Aoife O’Driscoll  

A molecular plant pathologist by training, Aoife has broad ranging experience in crop protection research, agronomy and knowledge transfer in the arable and horticulture crop sectors.  

At NIAB, Aoife works to identify and build cross-cutting relationships between fundamental and applied research programmes to deliver the best IPM strategies onto farm. Her research interests centre around development of integrated disease management strategies for broadacre crops and ecologically-based tactics for better IPM and cereal production. 

Ashley Jones 

Ashley Jones (AHDB Saltash Monitor Farmer) runs the mixed 190ha Smeaton Farm, which is part of the Duchy of Cornwall estate. In partnership with his family, he farms 100ha cereals with maize and potatoes in the rotation and has 200 head of beef and 200 ewes. Diversification activities on the farm include a bed and breakfast, maize maze, Christmas trees and agricultural contracting. Ashley is BASIS and FACTS qualified.
