New approaches to genetics and grassland – learnings from a Strategic Farm
Join us at Dupath Farm to hear how to achieve better results by making changes to suit your system.
These include maximising grazing potential while investigating the genetics that can increase your system's output and profitability.
Adrian Coombe from Dupath Farm, Callington, runs a flock of 600 North Country mules alongside 200 beef cattle each year.
Adrian became a RamCompare project farm in 2017, contributing lamb performance data to improve the genetic evaluation of performance recorded rams. As the industry’s commercial progeny test for terminal sires enters its eighth season, RamCompare begins an exciting phase with the latest breeding values for abattoir traits now available online.
At this event, we will debate the importance of carcase quality in relation to the speed of finishing. Attendees will be able to take part in a virtual ram sale – hearing what happened when the best Charollais genetics from 30 years ago were tested alongside their modern cousins.
Adrian also joined AHDB’s Farm Excellence project in 2019 as a Beef and Lamb Strategic Farmer. Having now come to the end of his Strategic Farm journey, Adrian will be sharing his learnings and economic and performance results including:
- Reducing fertiliser use
- Reducing cattle finishing times
- Grazing resilience to drought
This event is aimed at sheep and beef farmers, and we’ll be joined by Sam Boon, AHDB's Signet manager.
