Join us and Livestock Partnership Vet Practice for a meeting to look at how we can use soil tests and carbon audit data to plan appropriate and timely use of organic and inorganic nutrients to improve soil health and grass yields.

Cathal McAleer, Grassland Advisor from N Ireland, will walk and talk us through:

  • Soil testing – what to track and how to use
  • Soil assessment – type, structure, how to improve
  • Grass crop – nutrient requirements
  • Nutrient sources – considerations of when and how to apply

Our hosts, Andrew and Sarah Malyon, will share their soil analysis and grazing data to support discussion throughout the event.

About Cathal McAleer

I am a grassland advisor from Northern Ireland. I completed a Bsc HONS Agriculture with Animal Science degree at Harper Adam’s in 2008, I had spent part of my placement year in NZ and that’s where my love for grassland-based farming developed.

I worked in Missouri, USA, for a period of time after completing university and then I began the advisory work back in 2010.

My passion is soil fertility, grass and herd genetics. We need the soil fertility to supply the nutrients, the right grass varieties to uptake the nutrients and the right genetics to utilise that grass and convert it to milk. So all are linked, we need all three to complete the circle!
