Leicestershire: Garner & Wade final strategic dairy farm meeting

Join brothers George and Ben Wade of Honeypot Farm as we review their time as an AHDB Strategic Dairy Farm and how they’ve developed an arable farm to aid succession planning.

Proactively identifying each generation’s needs, as well as the pros and cons of expansion has led to strategic growth in this family farming business. Working with their consultant, they investigated whether their milk contract allowed for expansion, discussed inheritance and succession, budgets and opportunities locally.

The result was an arable conversion next door to their existing farm run with their father, Martin, where they set up a 350-cow autumn-block calving unit in 2020. This is built around a self-feed silage system and a rotational grazing platform of 95ha.
