Join the world-renowned Dr. Alex Bach for a webinar exploring the economic indicators that influence a healthy and productive life for dairy cows.
Calves and heifers represent are the future of dairy herds and need careful management to develop into highly productive cows so understanding the key areas to focus on is a good place to start.
Dr Bach will outline the key areas in early life that have the biggest effect on a dairy cows’ ability to thrive, including:
- Management factors that have the biggest effects on dairy business economics
- What research tells us about managing calves
- The key factors affecting longevity
- Unintended consequences of perceived efficiency
This webinar precedes a series of meetings (between Preston and Exeter) that will delve into more detail on heifer management when Dr. Bach visits between 13th March and 17th March.

About Dr. Alex Bach (Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies, Barcelona)
Alex Bach conducts research to understand the physiology and metabolism of ruminants with special emphasis on the impact of nutrition and management during early development on future metabolic function. He has received several awards in recognition to his research activities, has spoken at more than 130 international congresses, is author or co-author of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, more than 100 extension articles, and more than 20 books (or book chapters). He has served as a scientific expert in several committees of the European Food Safety Authority and has also served in the European Research Council. He is section editor and sits in the editorial board of several scientific journals, and is member of various scientific committees.
