Past Event - booking closed

10:30am - 2:00pm

Perry Farm, Bagber Common, Sturminster Newton, Dorset

DT10 2HB

Join Kenton Bennett of Perry Farm as we review his time as a strategic dairy farm and look to future plans.

Kenton and his partner, Charlotte, take every step to ensure very minimal antibiotic usage by promoting best practise on farm, from drying off protocols, cow nutrition to their youngstock management.

Planning for the future, they also want to look at the use of anthelmintics on farm, and how these can also be reduced through rotational grazing to help soil health and dung beetle populations thrive on farm.

At this meeting, you will hear from Mike Kerby from Synergy Vets and Victoria Hicks, Kite Consulting, who will show how Perry Farm achieve low mastitis and transition disease cases through strict drying off protocols and dry cow transition management on farm.

We will then hear how commercial dairy farmer and Nuffield scholar, Bruce Thompson, uses a ‘traffic light’ system to graze his youngstock in a controlled way to reduce the impact anthelmintics have on dung beetles on his farm. We will also cover how an integrated approach to parasite management can improve livestock and soil health on farm.

The meeting will cover

  • Best practise of dry cow transition management
  • Drying off and mastitis protocols
  • Identifying the risk of parasites on your farm and grazing platform
  • How to monitor and control your risks with grazing strategies
  • The role dung beetles can play in a healthy farm ecosystem and worm control, leading to lower anthelmintic usage
