Chathill Monitor Farm on tour: Soil secrets with Joel Williams
Join us for the first Chathill Monitor Farm meeting of the season, where we will be on tour to Mindrum Farm with host Tom Fairfax.
We will be joined by Tom Fairfax, who runs Mindrum Farm, and Joel Williams, an independent plant and soil health educator and consultant, to discuss how re-thinking your business through the lens of biodiversity can help unlock hidden potential.
The event will be held in collaboration with Nourish Scotland and is part of the Agroecology: Strengthening Livelihoods farmer-to-farmer knowledge exchange programme in Scotland.
Bring lots of questions and expect actionable, evidence-based advice and practical solutions that you can implement on your farm.
If you'd like to have a look at what's going on in your soil, please bring some samples so we can have a closer look under the microscope.
What will this meeting cover?
- Power of biodiversity made simple – from microbial ecology to temporal and spatial crop & sward diversification – what are the straightforward, practical steps we can next take on farm? Discussions will include multi-species swards, companion cropping, flowering strips and variety blends.
- Soil assessments, and plant and animal nutrition – how an integrated approach can unlock farm profitability and business resilience. The role of the soil microbiome and nutrition in supporting healthy plants and animals, IPM and driving performance.
- Fertiliser strategy – unpicking the role of fertilisers in crop and animal production and how to optimise uptake.
Registration and refreshments will be available from 10:00am and lunch will be provided.
Please bring suitable footwear and clothing for a field walk.
BASIS and NRoSO points will be available for attending.
The event is free to attend, but spaces are limited, so please register to secure your spot and allow us to cater accordingly.
