Weekly store markets by region

• The England and Wales liveweight auction market data reported on this webpage is licensed by the Livestock Auctioneers Association (LAA), who have made the decision to take direct control of the creation, publication, and dissemination of this data. 

• From 1 January 2024, liveweight auction market data will no longer be available via the AHDB website. The responsibility for producing England and Wales market data is being moved by LAA to a third-party data partner, with AHDB ceasing to cleanse or aggregate this data. As part of this change, AHDB will be unable to publish Scottish or GB data or provide cleansed data to licensed publishers and users.

• AHDB will continue to provide independent expert analysis of the domestic livestock industry through our regular publications, analysis, data and outlooks. AHDB will explore how more insight on liveweight prices and throughputs can be provided in the future for levy payers.

This survey is a key indicator of store auction market sales across Great Britain.  Price and throughput information of store cattle and sheep, as well as dairy cattle and rearing calves are available regionally.

These reports are normally updated every Wednesday for the previous week.

Store cattle and rearing calves are sold either individually or in batches and auction markets provide the breed, sex category, date of birth, and price information for every animal sold in the store ring.

Sold sheep are normally sold in batches and the auction markets provide the age category and price information for every lot sold.

Store sheep are reported as new season lambs (clean sheep from this year’s crop) or old season lambs (clean sheep from last year’s crop) sometimes referred to as hoggs or hoggets.
