Project details
The aim of this project was to estimate the volumetric water consumption of British dairy production in relation to its potential environmental impact.

Providing:

• A framework for the analysis of water footprint for GB milk, taking account of international developments in water footprinting methodology
• An estimate of the water required to produce a litre of milk across a range of dairy production systems
• Consumption by water source (i.e. Blue - piped or extracted; Green - rainwater), and relationships with regional water availability
• Review of opportunities for water conservation and increasing water use efficiency
