About this project
Project details
The aim of this project was to estimate the volumetric water consumption of British dairy production in relation to its potential environmental impact.
Providing:
- A framework for the analysis of water footprint for GB milk, taking account of international developments in water footprinting methodology
- An estimate of the water required to produce a litre of milk across a range of dairy production systems
- Consumption by water source (i.e. Blue - piped or extracted; Green - rainwater), and relationships with regional water availability
- Review of opportunities for water conservation and increasing water use efficiency
