Skills strategy
An evolution is required in the agriculture industry. Attitudes towards skills and lifelong learning need to change if we want to remain competitive, improve resilience and prosper in the future.
There is widespread recognition that the industry’s skills needs should be better assessed, understood and delivered and that employers should be encouraged to view labour as a key asset and investment not just a cost. Transforming the industry’s approach to skills and securing a professional image will require concerted effort and collaboration over time.
A small commissioning group, linked to the Food and Drink Sector Council, has developed an innovative and challenging draft skills strategy as a starting point to begin this transformation. This draft strategy combines the recommendations made in recent years from various organisations and stakeholders into one document for the whole of industry to consider and support.
