Demonstration updates

Cover crops and water quality

Brian Barker’s introduction to this trial and the results so far from Kate Smith, ADAS (starting at 04:19). This demonstration is looking to determine the role of cover crops in reducing nitrate leaching losses.

Early crop biomass

Brian Barker’s introduction to this trial and the results to-date from Damian Hatley, ADAS (starting at 03:35). This demonstration is looking at the use of starter fertilisers, the technique used to apply them, and how they may contribute to increasing early season biomass in winter wheat.

Flowering strips

Hear from Brian Barker about the establishment of these strips, put in place to determine the effect of perennial flower strips on beneficial insect and pest populations

Very low inputs

This demonstration is looking to determine the effect of reduced input applications on pests and diseases, crop yields and gross margins. Hear from Brian Barker how it is going on the ground to-date.

Pests and natural enemies

This research is looking to monitor selected invertebrate pests and natural enemies to investigate natural variation in species and abundance. Mark Ramsden talks us through how this is working on the Strategic Farms.
