Open Your Gate

Be part of our Open Your Gate campaign and help create one million on-farm learning experiences for children by 2031.

We’ve joined forces with LEAF to give help and support for farmers to host visits with confidence so together we can achieve this ambitious goal.

Together, we can bring young people closer to farming – turning real on-farm experiences into lasting understanding and future choices.

By opening your gates today, you can give children a real understanding of food, farming and the people behind British agriculture.

Nobody tells the story of British farming better than the people living it every day.

How you can get involved

To make hosting farm visits easy and a pleasure, AHDB and LEAF are giving 80 farmers the chance to take part in the School Farm Visits Support programme.

The programme, which includes fully funded Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme (CEVAS) training, gives the knowledge and guidance needed to plan and deliver safe, high-quality and engaging farm visits.

There is also tailored 1-2-1 support from a LEAF Education Specialist, plus resources and access to a network of new and experienced host farmers.

So, Open Your Gate and be part of a nationwide movement to inspire the next generation through real experiences on farm.

Educating tomorrow's consumers

What children learn today influences what they choose tomorrow.

Our education work helps children understand where their food comes from and how it is produced sustainably.

As well as Open Your Gate, our drive to get one million on-farm experiences for children includes our work with programmes such as:

If we want more of the consumers of tomorrow to support British farming, they need to see it for themselves.
