GB finished pig prices stay strong

In the week ending 20 June, the EU-spec SPP rose 0.29p on the week to 164.93p/kg as supplies tightened. The measure is now 15.17p above the same week last year and 21.73p above the five-year average.

Slaughter at GB abattoirs was estimated at 159,600 head, down 1,100 head on the week. Throughput is now 3,900 head below last year.

Carcase weights averaged 84.73kg, up 270g on the week before. Average weights are now 1.51kg above last year.

Meanwhile, in the week ending 13 June, the EU-spec APP rose 0.27p on the week to 167.45p/kg. The measure is now 15.87p above last year’s price and 21.26p above the five-year average. The SPP also rose by just 0.19p in the same week, so the gap between the SPP and APP widened to 2.81p/kg.

Prices for 7kg weaners in the week ending 20 June averaged £41.57/head, down £1.43 on the week. Supplies were reportedly tight, although reports suggest there were concerns over feed costs going forward.
