Love BBQ 2023

1 May saw the return of our Love BBQ campaign, which runs until 4 June. The campaign encourages consumers to celebrate the taste of summer by trying our delicious and easy barbecue pork, beef and lamb recipes.

For those hosting friends or family for a special occasion or bank holiday weekend, there are many enticing recipes to try. Use premium cuts such as beef, lamb or pork steaks to impress guests, or home-made burgers and kebabs.  

Campaign activity

Getting social

AHDB's consumer-facing channels, Love Pork and Simply Beef and Lamb, share new social media assets in the form of recipe videos, recipe images and infographics showcasing the best meat cuts to put on your barbecue.

Short recipe videos, known as reels on Instagram, will include '3 Ways with Pork Mince' and '3 Ways to Flavour your Steak', aiming to give consumers a better understanding of how easy it can be to create a delicious barbecue spread.

All social media posts receive boosted ad spend, to help the campaign reach a wider audience.

You can view all the barbecue recipes over on the Love Pork and Simply Beef and Lamb websites, with dedicated barbecue recipe collections.

Working with an influencer

As part of the Love BBQ campaign, AHDB have partnered with a well-known influencer, Anna's Family Kitchen who has created a delicious lean lamb leg steak recipe for the barbecue.

Supporting content

As well as the recipes, additional blogs have been created to provide useful tips and tricks to help consumers host a successful barbecue for their friends and family. The 10 BBQ hacks you need to try from Love Pork and Top 10 BBQ Hacks from Simply Beef and Lamb blogs will provide consumers with guidance around preparing the barbecue, adding flavour to their meat, and how to up the ante to really impress those guests. They can even discover how to turn their barbecue into a DIY smoker.

E-newsletters featuring specially selected recipes will be sent to over 50,000 subscribers across Love Pork and Simply Beef and Lamb. Again providing them with more recipe inspiration for the summer ahead. 

Marketing support kits

The summer butchers' kit has been sent out to over 1,000 independent butchers and farm shops within the UK. This kit provides point-of-sale recipe leaflets and posters to help give consumers inspiration for which cut to select when at the counter.

Recipes in the summer kit include: BBQ Lime & Ginger Steaks, Harissa Meatball Kebabs, Beef Steak with Summer Salsa, Alfresco BBQ Beef Kebabs, Lamb, Mint and Halloumi Kebabs, BBQ Lamb and Coriander Burgers.
