Food – a fact of life

We partner with the British Nutrition Foundation to support food education in the UK and deliver the Food – a fact of life programme. The programme aims to ensure that young people are better informed about where food comes from, healthy eating and cooking.

About the Food – a fact of life programme

The programme offers free teaching information and resources to educators of children and young people aged 3–16 years.

This collaboration combines nutrition and farming expertise to provide evidence-based resources and training to teaching professionals across the UK.

Forming part of our strategy to protect and promote the reputation of British agriculture, we focus on developing accurate and up-to-date educational resources with the aim of reaching and informing consumers of the future.

In 2023:

  • Resources including activity packs, quizzes, lesson plans, presentations and worksheets were downloaded over 1.3m times
  • 882 educators attended webinars, conferences and workshops
  • 100% of teachers attending our conferences said it had given them ideas to implement in their schools

The programme meets all UK national curricula and alleviates some of the increasing time and budget pressures faced by educators.

It focuses on providing life skills in nutrition and healthy eating, practical cooking skills, and understanding where food comes from.
