Kingsclere Monitor Farm

Tim May manages 1000 ha mixed Pit Hall Farm, producing organic wheat, barley oats and beans for milling, malting, human consumption and feed.

The farm is now fully organic following a gradual conversion starting in 2017.

The land is split into 8 blocks which help form the 4-year ley, 4-year crop rotation, with dairy cows (480 NZ Frisian Jersey cross) and laying hens being managed on the grassland in mobile units.

The organic conversion has been built on the back of a regenerative approach to farming. The focus has been on minimising cultivations and improving soil structure, employing technology to highlight areas where site-specific management is required.

Tim’s ambitions for the next three years are to share what he’s learnt from his journey and continue reducing costs while increasing yields.
