Camborne Monitor Farm
About Camborne Monitor Farm
- Cornhill Farm became a Monitor Farm in May 2024
- 200 ha (140 ha arable) – 80 ha owned with the rest being rented or swapped
- Rotation: Winter wheat, winter barley, cabbage/cauliflower, potatoes and maize
- Soil type: Medium sandy loam
- Non-arable enterprise: 14,000 laying hens
Cornhill Farm has a ‘local’ ethos, with 80% of eggs from the laying hens being sold locally.
Arable operations complement this way of working with some grain harvested staying on farm to be milled into feed, along with a central drying and storage operation and other contracting also being offered for local growers.
This attitude also extends to knowledge exchange. The farm often hosts local school visits and actively shares updates via social media. Hosting Monitor Farm meetings will be another opportunity for Pete to spread knowledge in the area and build on the platform he already has.
Over the next three years, Pete aims to focus on the arable side of his business, bring up average yields and improve areas of his technical knowledge in the process.
