About Altcar Moss Monitor Farm
- Goose Meadow Farming became a Monitor Farm in May 2024
- Farm size: 372 ha (of which 345 is arable)
- Rotation: Wheat, barley, oats, beans, OSR, potatoes and grassland
Simon, Lisa and Cameron Edwards farm 372 ha of rented land on peat and sandy clay loam soils.
The main challenge for Simon and Cameron is the uncertain future of farming on lowland peat. Climate change threatens a wetter climate which will affect the viability of growing certain crops.
The family are also conscious that their soils store a lot of carbon and are looking to implement changes that will allow them to continue crop production without any detrimental impact on the peat condition and environment.
The family want to use their tenure as a Monitor Farm to share information, navigate farm succession and encourage the next generation to look for opportunities in the face of these challenges.
