With the average cost for keeping a ewe for the year estimated at £100, it’s more important than ever that costs are managed and flock performance measured to ensure a profitable business is maintained.

Join AHDB and Ian Cairns, independent agricultural consultant, for this event which will focus on how we can identify areas of good performance within your own business and where further improvements can be made. Ian will also advise on how to successfully plan for a large investment and will update on grants and funding available now and in the future for sheep farmers.

Agenda:

  • Introduction to the Strategic Farm Programme – Sarah Pick, AHDB
  • Overview of Chestnut Farm, Lincolnshire Beef & Lamb Strategic Farm – Chris Elkington
  • Identifying strengths and weaknesses in business – Ian Cairns, 5 Agri
  • Managing fixed and variable costs
  • Planning for a large investment
  • Grants and funding for sheep farmers
  • Light lunch (at the start)

Chris Elkington, our Lincolnshire Strategic Farmer, will give a progress update on his farm since the launch event in October. He’ll also talk about how knowing and understanding his costs has helped him make decisions and set future priorities and objectives on his farm.
