This is a follow-up meeting to 'Making the most of manure'. We will look at what it costs to spread manure and whether the nutrient value covers this cost.

What this meeting will cover

Host farmer John Weir and agronomist Eric Anderson will discuss the costs involved in spreading manure at John’s farm; from baling the straw to spreading the manure.

They will then work out from the manure analysis whether the monetary value of the nutrients covers the cost of dealing with the manure.

They will also investigate:

  • Whether it's better to chop the straw behind the combine and the advantages and disadvantages of this
  • The nutrient value of straw
  • What (if any) problems chopping straw can cause in a reduced tillage system and possible solutions

Attendees will also have the chance to work out their own costs for spreading manure.

Registration and a light supper will be available from 5:30pm with presentations starting at 6:00pm.

BASIS and NRoSO points will be available for attending.

The event is free to attend, but please register to allow us to cater accordingly.
