Join us as we take the Monitor Farm programme on tour. We look forward to welcoming you to Great Newsome Farm for a regenerative farm walk with our host Jonathan Hodgson who will show us around the farm.

Jonathan farms 280 hectares in East Yorkshire, mostly arable, growing a variety of crops including wheat, oilseed rape, vining peas, spring beans, spring oats, spring barley, flax, and herbal leys. He manages his farm to be as sustainable as possible with a focus on strip-till drilling and growing cover crops to maintain the health of the soil across his arable land.

We will also be joined on the day by soil expert Neil Fuller, who will be sharing the results of the soil health work he’s been doing with Yorkshire-based farmers, and Fiona Tweedie, Kings Crops Sustainable Farming Advisor, who will be on hand to answer questions on SFI and show how it’s used in action at Jonathan’s farm.

The tour will focus on the practices Jonathan is doing to improve soil health, reduce inputs, and manage risk:

  • Companion & bi-cropping
  • Cover & catch crops
  • Integrating livestock
  • Homemade inputs
  • Regenerative gross margins
  • Biodiversity
  • Diversification

Registration and refreshments will be available from 10:00am with the tour commencing at 10:30am. Lunch will be provided.

BASIS and NRoSO points will be available for attending.

The event is free to attend, but please register to allow us to cater accordingly.

Please bring suitable footwear and clothing for a field walk. To assist with biosecurity and conform to government guidelines, please ensure outer clothing, boots and vehicles are clean (and that boots can be disinfected).
