Overview
Milk price movements
Milk contract prices steady to lower
After a firm start to the year, milk contract prices held steady to lower in February except for one contributor of the AHDB League table making a positive announcement.
On retailer aligned contracts, prices lowered (held for some). Waitrose and M&S held on to their price for another consecutive month. M&S has been holding their price steady for the last six months. However, Co-op Dairy group and Sainsbury’s announced a decline of 0.18ppl and 0.01ppl, respectively. After holding steady for three months, Tesco moved their price lower by 0.42ppl in February.
Non-aligned liquid contracts mostly held their prices this month including Muller Direct, Freshways, Crediton, Payne’s and Yew Tree. However, there was a slight decline of 0.08ppl by Pembrokeshire Creamery.
Cheese contracts prices continued to be stable. Barber’s and First Milk Manufacturing are holding prices from last three months. Belton, Saputo, Leprino Foods and South Caernarfon Creameries announced their fourth consecutive month without change. Wyke farms is the only contributor on the AHDB League table to make a positive price announcement of 0.20ppl.
Similarly to cheese, manufacturing contracts also remained stable. Arla Direct held on to their price after eight months of consecutive increase. Pattemores, UK Arla and Meadow also announced no changes.
