Andrew Palmer
Andrew was brought up on a mixed family farm and studied agriculture at Bishop Burton College. This included a specialist course in pig unit management, which sowed the seed for his career in the pig industry.

After college, Andrew pursued a career within the industry, covering all aspects of pig production. Starting as a stockperson, he progressed to unit manager and then to a fieldsperson’s role, looking after several units including a nucleus breeding unit. During this time, Andrew also participated in our Professional Managers Development Scheme (PMDS), which changed the way he built and managed teams on pig units.

Having a strong understanding of the technical side of the pig industry, along with first-hand experience of how training can progress and develop stockpeople, it seemed a natural progression for him to become a knowledge exchange manager at AHDB. He joined us in 2014, covering the east of England.

Andrew enjoys working in an industry that is constantly looking for new and innovative technologies and practices to drive more efficient and profitable pig businesses. He is glad to use his industry experience, along with the training he has completed, to help producers become more efficient and productive.
