Alex Gowen

Alex Gowen joined AHDB’s Centre of Excellence in 2025 to lead work on agri-food policy analysis, drawing on a background in strategic policy, stakeholder engagement, and international trade. Prior to this, he was UK & Europe Regional Director for Beef + Lamb New Zealand and the New Zealand Meat Board, where he represented New Zealand’s levy-funded red meat sector across Europe. Earlier in his career, Alex held commercial roles in the red meat industry, as well as positions in agri-policy within retail and export promotion.

He brings substantial experience in international agricultural policy, advocacy, and government relations, with a focus on sustainable farming, market intelligence, and regulatory frameworks.

Outside of work, Alex is a keen motorcyclist, a qualified Scuba Instructor, and serves as an Army Reservist. His family farm beef and sheep near Punta Arenas, in Chile’s Magallanes region.
