Rumen function in dairy cows

Summary

Aims & Objectives
To improve understanding of rumen function as affected by diet, feeding,  management and animal-specific factors. In addition, to provide information on whether theoretical benefits in reduced greenhouse gas emissions predicted from residual feed intake are enhanced or offset by changes in  methane emissions measured on farm.

Expected Outcomes

  • New information on managing and predicting good rumen function
  • Information on animal specific effects on rumen function,  which may be under genetic control
