This page provides a snapshot of key information from the pork market in 2025.

GB prices

Figure 1 shows that the GB Standard Pig Price (SPP) for 2025 was 204.71 pence per kg, down 2.35% on the previous year. Pig prices rose to reach a peak in August 2023 before falling back in 2024 and 2025.

UK slaughterings

Table 1 shows that UK clean pig slaughterings in 2025 totalled 10,426 thousand head, up 174,000 on the previous year.

Sows and adult boar slaughterings in the UK in 2025 were 198 thousand head, down 11,000 head on 2024.

UK self-sufficiency

Figure 2 shows that the UK’s self-sufficiency for pork in 2025 was 60.6%, up 2.3 percentage points from 2024.

Global prices

Figure 3 shows the EU grade E pig price for 2025 was 162.85 pence per kg deadweight, down 7.7% on the previous year.

The 2025 German sow price was 111.26 pence per kg, down 20.1% on 2024.

The US barrow/gilt price for 2025 was 114.97 pence per kg, up 8.3% on the previous year.

The global pork export price is based upon shipments from the EU, Brazil, Canada and the USA. In 2025 it was 227.30 pence per kg, down on the previous year by 2.3%.

GB retail sales

Primary pork includes steaks, roasting joints, chops, mince, belly and pork ribs.
Processed pork includes bacon, gammon, burgers/grills, sausages and sliced cooked meats.
Other pork includes added-value products (sous vide, marinades and ready to cook), ready meals, chilled main meal accompaniments, pie, pastries, snacks, canned pork and all other pork products (excluding pizza).

Figure 4 shows that in 2025, 929.2 thousand tonnes of pork were sold in the GB retail sector, with £884 million spent on primary pork sales, the retail price of which increased by 2.2% on 2024.

The retail price of processed pork went down by 0.2% in 2025 against 2024, with sales totalling £4.12 billion. 

Other pork products – which include sous vide, ready to cook and ready meals – accounted for sales of £1.18 billion in 2025. The retail prices of these commodities was up by 4.0% on average compared to the previous year.

UK trade

Figure 5 shows UK exports and imports of pig meat and pig offal.  In 2025, pig meat exports were 158,998 tonnes and imports were 735,226 tonnes. Pig offal exports were 147,182 tonnes and imports were 17,248 tonnes.

Figure 6 shows UK trade with the EU in 2025: for pig meat, 100% of imports and 56% of exports were with the EU. For pig offal, 100% of pig offal imports and 20% of exports were with the EU.
