About Bingham Monitor Farm

  • Manor Farm has been a Monitor Farm since May 2023
  • Joe farms 560 ha of predominantly tenanted land
  • His current 440 ha arable rotation includes wheat, OSR, beans, quinoa and maize
  • There's also a small asparagus enterprise at the farm

Joe Fisher farms 560 ha on medium clay loams from his base at Saxondale, Bingham. Predominantly operating across tenanted land, his own 440 ha arable rotation changes in response to soil type, market, weed pressure and location. Joe’s current rotation consists of wheat, oilseed rape (OSR), beans, quinoa and maize.

Most of the farm is now direct drilled but flexibility in tillage is required for quinoa and maize. Multi-species cover crop mixes are grown ahead of all spring crops, with destruction coming in the form of grazing or rolling on a heavy frost.

Joe’s ambition is to grow both the arable and non-farming enterprises, making efficient use of the businesses assets to create a more resilient farming model. Reducing chemical and oil-based inputs is another goal Joe envisions will impact the business positively, and will help to address environmental targets such as net zero and increasing biodiversity around the farm.
