Stephen West

Steve is responsible for Dairy KE activity in Derbyshire and across the West Midlands. He joined AHDB on the Beef & Lamb side in 2015 and later joined the Dairy team in 2017.

Steve is involved in the Bull Calf forum and has an interest in genetics and practical uses of sexed semen. He has an active role in three Strategic Dairy Farms and coordinates the Shropshire-based Millennium Discussion group.

Steve’s practical experience includes establishing his own farming and cattle contracting enterprise in the South West of England, with most of his experience coming from higher output AYR calving systems.  This followed on from a tenure at NMR as a Business Development Manager, concentrating on cattle health schemes, in particular Johne’s, BVD and Mastitis.

Steve graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences from Lancaster University and worked as a research scientist in the field of Molecular Genetics, providing good background knowledge to support his interest in cattle disease, cattle genetics and testing technologies.
