Abstract
Two varieties of oilseed rapemeal were used to investigate the feasibility of this industrial by-product being used as a support for oil degrading bacterial consortia - Glucosinolate containing oilseed rapemeal (GORM) and glucosinolate free oilseed rapemeal (ORM). Research was carried out on the effect rapemeal has on the ability of oil degrading bacteria to degrade a variety of hydrocarbons under seawater conditions. This was done using the bacterial consortia naturally occurring in ORM & GORM and consortium WD-7 (isolated from Cormorant North Sea Crude Oil by Maria Piedad Diaz).
