Bodysgaw Isa strategic farm launch

Arthur Owen of Bodysgaw Isa near Conwy becomes our second strategic dairy farm in Wales when it launched in September 2019.

Over 90 farmers attended the launch of Bodysgaw Isa run by Arthur Owen and his family since 1939, which operates an autumn block calving herd of 375 Friesian and crossbred cows.

Arthur provided an open and honest overview of his farm and advocated what he refers to as his 'easy care cow system'.

He explained 'I think every farmer has something to learn. We joined as a AHDB strategic dairy farm because we wanted to continue to improve what we do here. I like to keep it simple, we get the cows out on grass as soon as possible and we like to breed smaller cows that calve easily in the fields. Of course we still have areas where we could improve more and I would lke to get more milk from forage, reduce our costs, improve our grazing platform and reduce the instances of neospora.'

Arthur Owen will host three events a year on his farm for the next three years. If you cannot make the events be sure to catch up on the learning if you are working on similar challenges.
