Harvest progress in the UK

Updated 25 July 2025
Use our interactive tool below to discover harvest progress across the UK. You can also select specific crops, areas and the years you wish to compare at a regional or national level.

Overview

While harvest got off to a fast start, intermittent and often heavy rainfall has slowed progress.

There is a noticeable slowdown from the week ending 16 July to the current week, driven by rainfall over the past weekend (19-20 July). In many cases, combining has not restarted since Friday 18 July.

A particularly heavy band of rain moved across Northern Ireland, northern England and Scotland on Monday and Tuesday this week, further stalling progress.

Winter barley harvesting is into the closing stages with only Scotland and Northern Ireland still combining as at 23 July, while the winter oilseed rape harvest had passed the half way point (54% complete).

The wheat, oat, spring barley and pulse harvests are underway but at early stages.

With further rainfall forecast, some growers have been cutting crops at higher moistures where wet weather is likely to impact quality (milling wheat) or yield (oilseed rape and pulses). This will incur drying costs.

At this point of harvest, there is no consistent picture of yields for the UK. There is significant variation in yield trends both within regions and within farms.

Generally, moisture has been the limiting factor this season. Those on lighter soils have generally seen poorer yields, while those on heavier, moisture retentive soils have fared better.

Straw yields are highly variable depending on the level of moisture available to the crop during stem extension.

This is the second report of 2025. The third report of 2025 is scheduled for release on Friday 8 August.

How to use the dashboard

The latest 2025 information is now available to view in the report.

Use the drop down menus at the top of the dashboard to select a harvest week and crop. This will allow you to view the national harvested area for that crop (top chart) as well as a regional breakdown (right-hand chart).

National quality and yield information (left-hand table) is also available for all crops alongside harvest progress comments (map). The line chart tracks national harvest progress, for the selected crop, compared to previous years

Use the drop down menus at the top of the second chart to view the harvest progress, of a particular crop, throughout the season
