Auction market price reporting
A decision by the Livestock Auctioneers’ Association (LAA) to change how auction market prices are published means some data is no longer be available to levy payers via the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).
From 1 January 2024, the LAA moved to a new data processor, allowing them to commercialise their data. This means a proportion of the industry are required to pay to access the information that AHDB used to publish.
As a not-for-profit levy board, we felt it would not be appropriate for AHDB to be involved in a commercial venture of this nature.
AHDB is disappointed that we are no longer able to continue to provide quality auction market prices as we had done for many years.
AHDB continues to process and publish all other outputs, including the deadweight cattle and sheep price information each week. We also continue to provide insights into the markets through our regular publications, analysis pieces and outlooks.
To summarise:
-
The England and Wales liveweight auction market data previously reported on this webpage was licensed by the Livestock Auctioneers Association (LAA), who made the decision to take direct control of the creation, publication, and dissemination of this data.
-
From 1 January 2024, individual auction market data will no longer be available via the AHDB website. The responsibility for producing England and Wales market data was moved by LAA to a third-party data partner, with AHDB ceasing to cleanse or aggregate this data. As part of this change, AHDB also stopped publishing Scottish or GB data.
-
AHDB continues to provide independent expert analysis of the domestic livestock industry through our regular publications, analysis, data and outlooks.
