Jo Speed, coach and CowSignals Master Trainer, together with professional hoof trimmer Steve Paul will be covering four topics that are more connected than they might appear and how to embed them across your whole team.

This workshop is an opportunity to step back, focus and invest two hours in your farm, your herd and your team — coming away with practical knowledge and fresh thinking you can use straight away.

Jo Speed is a CowSignals Master Trainer and one of the UK's leading specialists in stress-free cattle handling (developed AHDB Mobility Scoring!), stockmanship and farm team development. Jo works with farmers and their teams to build the kind of calm, confident handling culture that makes every aspect of farm life easier — from the daily milking routine to the moments when things don't go to plan. Jo understands that great handling is not just about the farmer — it is about every person who works with your cattle, and how you bring them with you.

Steve Paul is a professional foot trimmer and owner of CowsFeet, with years of experience working across dairy farms of all sizes and systems. Steve has seen over his career more cows' feet than almost anyone — which means he also sees, week in and week out, the direct consequences of how dairy cows and heifers are managed, housed and handled. His practical insight into lameness prevention, foot health and the stories that trimming records tell is the kind of knowledge that only comes from years at the sharp end.

Together Jo and Steve will share their experiences of working with cattle across a wide range of farm environments and situations — covering not just what good looks like, but how to achieve it on your farm, with your team, in the real world. From daily handling and parlour routine through to loading, TB testing and everything in between, this is a session grounded in genuine experience and focused entirely on what is useful to you.

Light dinner and refreshments will be provided.

Somerset: Your cows, your farm, your team - The value of mobility scoring and stress-free cattle handling

Join us and Barbers Farmhouse Cheesemakers for an informative workshop focussing on stress-free handling, the four key lameness diseases, what your mobility records are really telling you, and the link between heifer rearing, housing, stocking rates and the cows you have.

This is a unique opportunity to explore the strategies behind one of the most progressive and adaptable dairy operations in the USA.

Owners Rodney and Dorothy Elliott, originally from Northern Ireland, moved to the USA in 2006 and started a 1,400-cow dairy.

Over 20 years, they expanded to a multi-barn operation milking around 6,500 cows. They also built a 120,000-head calf ranch supplying heifers across nine states and partnered to open a further 5,000-cow unit.

They combine strong financial management, robust systems and clear team structures. They control much of their forage through 2,600 acres, invest in clean energy, and run an award-winning reproductive programme.

Their approach focuses on getting the fundamentals right, consistently and at scale, so the business remains resilient, high-performing, and adaptable.

At this event, you will find out how to:

Know your numbers – understand what drives profit and make confident, timely decisions

Design a robust system – simplify processes to improve efficiency, consistency and adaptability

Strengthen sustainability – implement practical changes that support environmental and business performance

What you’ll take back to your farm

Take away practical ideas to improve efficiency, reduce pressure and make better decisions. Gain a clearer view of where your business is making or losing money.

You’ll also leave with simple, actionable steps to strengthen resilience and the confidence to adapt your plans as your farm evolves.

Get the most from your people – clarify roles and responsibilities to improve accountability and results

Plan for the long term – set a clear direction and develop plans that evolve with your business and the market
